The average cost of a pharmacy technician training program is $34,000, according to a report from the Federal Trade Commission released Thursday.
The report, released by the Commission on Thursday, shows the median cost of pharmacy technician programs is $48,000.
The average amount of debt a pharmacy technicians course has accrued over a four-year period is $26,400, and the median amount of outstanding debt in a pharmacy techs program is over $20,000 per year.
The study said the average amount owed by pharmacy technicians in a four year period was $8,858, including interest, fees, and legal fees.
The survey of pharmacy technicians also found the average debt is $1,569, including a $200 fee for an online assessment and a $50 annual fee for a telephone assessment.
In a statement to CNBC, the Commission said that pharmacy technician education programs are in a high demand, and that the average cost to students of a four years pharmacy technician program is higher than other degree programs.
